Style Runway - Accessories - Prints + Patterns
By Daniella Silvera
1/30/2012 10:59:00 PM
Prints and patterns established their own explosive moment when they arrived on the scene in a number of ways this season. Whether they're used to break up a solid ensemble or daringly clashed together for a whimsical look, prints provide an ultra-cool touch.

Building an au courant look this season is easy with signature dauntless prints from designers such as Versace and Missoni. Due to their riveting swirls of colors and shapes, these prints provide an effortless twist to a look through accessories such as scarves or even umbrellas.

Experimenting with prints this season will allow you to play with the mood of your look and shift the direction for either the office or after dark festivities. You can easily soften a look with a simple floral print or polka dots, add a touch of class with paisley, or turn up the heat by sneaking in an animal print such as a leopard clutch.

Now, If you're feeling daring, take this seasons "clashing" trend in your own hands. As seen on the runway in Dolce & Gabbana's Fall 2011 show, polka dots and animal print collided in an unpredictable yet effortlessly cool, downtown-chic look. Don't be afraid to play around with your own patterns and prints to create your own unique look this season.

So, from zebra print to magnified paisley, heavy printed accessories are a must have in your wardrobe this season. Use them to magically shift the mood of a look or work them on a different scale to create a playful and in-the-moment ensemble.

Style Runway - Shoes & Handbags - Colorful Handbags
By Heather Epstein
1/30/2012 3:25:00 PM

I know the importance of a great handbag, and not just as a fashion blogger but also as an everyday woman on the go. Handbags are like a second home to us, we carry around all of our essentials in there: make-up, cellphone, wallet, and even sometimes an extra pair of shoes. We not only need our bags to accommodate our lifestyle, but we also need them to be equally comfortable and fashionable. Sometimes finding all three things in one bag can be a headache, and lets be honest we sometimes fall for the small bag that we just find too adorable to pass up. Well ladies, it’s high time we find ourselves that perfect bag and it’s easier then ever this season thanks to brightly colored satchels and totes.

Forget everything you have ever known about satchel bags. These bags have gotten a serious modern day twist to them. Not only are these styles trendy, but sophistication and class abounds. These bags are comfortable since many come with a cross-body strap, which relives weight of your shoulders, and are roomy enough to carry around all your goods. Satchels are perfect for the busy business woman who packs her bags full of papers, notebooks, and even the occasional laptop. This season this handbag style is getting even more of a modern day makeover, offered up in a variety of colors ranging from neon to candy colored like the very popular Zanith Vivian Mini Satchel. This bright color trend is fun to try with a handbag especially if you are scared of going all out with a colorful outfit. These bags will give a pop of life to your outfit and will take your from day to night.

What woman doesn’t love the tote bag? Thanks to companies like Longchamp for making it perfectly acceptable and fashionable to tote around a tote bag. Tote bags are really like magically little bags; they are great for carrying around just about everything but the kitchen sink. Totes, much like the satchel, has been redesigned to fits all your needs and come in delicious must have colors. Make your everyday outfit stand out more by choosing a tote bag that is full of color. Whether going to the gym or office, totes are the cheerful that really make a statement.

Dare to be bright this season and match your colorful bags with stand out accessories and colorful clothing. Take your monotonous work outfit to fab by pairing your stand out satchel or tote with some funky accessories like a brightly colored necklace or layered bracelets. The fearless fashionista may even opt to pair their carry-all with some slim fitting colored denim, but beware of color-overdose. When in doubt keep it simple: stay in the color family or colors that are close together on the color pin wheel and stick with no more then three different colors or shades. Viola! You’ve got yourself an on-trend outfit that will take you from fall to spring.

Style Runway - Shoes & Handbags - OMG Shoes!
By TheFashionisette
1/30/2012 9:06:00 AM

Shoes might be the last thing you put on, but they are the deal-breakers. If you put on the wrong pair with an outfit, it automatically cancelled everything you styled above the ankles. The opposite would hold true, the right pair of shoes can step up your outfit and make it complete.

I'm always looking for the next pair of OMG shoes. You know, those shoes that stop you dead in your tracks and make you say, “OMG. I need them!” Naturally, I go to Loehmann’s for my footwear options because they house all of the major designers at OMG prices. I spotted some shoes that gave me that OMG moment, and my wallet didn’t sigh.

A shoe-drobe should comprise of the basics: your classic pumps (in a staple and neutral color), a wedge, a sandal, a bootie, a boot, and a rainboot. These will be your go-to’s in any fashion situation. When it comes to a LBP, or Little Black Pump, opt for the classic style with a modern twist. These Charles Jourdan pointy-toe black pumps come in a classic style, but for the twist, the heel and platform bring the edge.   If pumps sometime give you problems like they do me, avoid the slippage and opt for these classic criss-cross strap Rachel Zoe nude suede pumps hold your foot down and bring a level of sophistication all their own.

You always need a sandal. Whether you’re a jetsetter to St. Barts in the winter, or you just wait for summer to break out your pedi, you will always need a stylish sandal you can run to when you’re packing or throwing on that maxi. Loving this Rachel Zoe black platform strappy sandal. It’s black, which means it will go with anything, high so your outfit won’t drag, and your foot is securely fit so no slippage.

Wedges, especially platform wedges, are undeniably comfortable. With these Rachel Zoe platform wedges, you get all the chic without the hurt.  And don’t be afraid of a peep-toe bootie. Surprisingly, a peep-toe bootie, or a “shootie”, can be worn all year round. To make your shootie winter relevant, pair with tights. No need to sacrifice your outfit just because it’s cold outside. These shooties from Charles Jourdan and L.A.M.B. are so stylish they deserve to be seen all year round.

And who can go without a hot pair of boots?  I’m addicted to boots during the fall and winter, they’re endlessly combinable with skinny jeans, leggings, and jeggings and are a very necessary wardrobe staple. But boots are very necessary. You can combine the wedge with knee-high boots and get the best of both worlds.  Mark & James has a great high boot in a wedge style that will look great with your winter wear.

Lastly, is it raining or snowing outside? Grab those wellies! Opt for a rainboot in a bold color. It’s already dreary outside, why not bring the light. Henry Ferrera yellow mock croc rainboots are just what you need to brighten the day.

Style Runway - Shoes & Handbags - If the Shoe Fits…
By Samantha Liebman
1/29/2012 10:33:00 AM
Just because you have to wear a suit or more conservative business attire for work doesn’t mean your inner fashionista can’t shine through. And one way to give an outfit a bit of a kick is to wear a great pair of shoes. I know I feel better when I’m wearing a fun, quirky pair that completes my outfit, even if no one actually sees them (and they often don’t since I’m on TV).

Especially when the weather is cold, instead of wearing a plain, black pump or knee-high boot—although kitten heels are looking good these days for both style and comfort—wear a bootie, an ankle boot. These Giuseppe Zanotti “Cindy” ankle boots in suede or leather can go with either a skirt suit or separates, a flowing mid-length or pencil skirt to the knee. Even better is the price: I found these at Loehmann’s Chelsea (New York City) reduced to $284.98.

If it’s too cold to bare so much leg, a taller bootie with cropped tapered pants can still look professional. At $139, the Rosegold’s are perfection.

Some of us don’t have the luxury of sitting at a desk all day—we have to stand or even run through airports to make a shuttle flight to a meeting—but we can be comfortable and still look great. A thick (not chunky) heel with a platform looks sexy while helping to reduce the burden of a steep incline. And Loehmann’s Chelsea delivered again with a great pair from Mark and James (as in Badgley Mischka) in patent leather for $169.99.

Of course, this time of year you cannot go without stockings. Before you make your way to the checkout counter, check out the pattern or textured stocking, but nothing too over the top; we’re still going to work after all. Stockings can be the final touch that makes all the difference.

Style Runway - Shoes & Handbags - Exotic Luxury
By The Fashionisette
1/29/2012 10:26:00 AM

To me, there is a never a wrong time to take a walk on the wild side of exotic handbags. With so many different options to choose from, you can always find one that speaks to your inner animal. Exotic really just means that it’s different, out of the ordinary, striking, and avant garde.  So what makes an exotic handbag stand out from the rest? It can be the choice of leather, animal skin, fur, feather, or even shape (in case you’re not into all the pomp and circumstance).

This season, I was never really a fan of animal hair on my accessories. But for some reason, it’s all I want. Pony hair is big right now. When choosing a pony hair bag, opt for a solid color. Black or an alternatively neutral color like camel, nude, or red would be best. This way, you can more readily pair the bag with your outfit, either as a pop of color or just to be in trend. Also, if you’re wearing an animal print in any part of your outfit, the solid pony hair bag, because it is a non-animal print, won’t make you look like you were just released into the wild. This Gabs “Large Hair” bag is perfect. It’s a neutral color and large enough to fit your season essentials.

Fur is, and always will be an exotic essential. With fur, you can be luxurious with faux or real since both look just as plush and addictive to pet. No one has to know if it’s real or not, but just wearing it makes you automatically feel opulent. When it comes to a fur handbag, a nice fur accented bag offers just the right touch, as opposed to a full-on fur covered handbag. It’s the difference between a fur handbag and a fur-ry handbag. The Steve Madden“Shearling Tote” would make a nice everyday bag because of its shape, and if you’re animal friendly, shearling is a great option because no animals are harmed. Christoper Kon makes a great faux fur “Hobo” bag that’s another animal-friendly option and has just the right amount of fur. Not to mention, the color of the fur allows you play up with color a little more.

Now when you think of exotic…what’s the first thing that comes to mind? Animal skin. The real thing requires a lot of care and upkeep. So if you’re like me and don’t want the pressure, opt for a mock croc handbag. You get the look and feel of animal print, but minus the hefty price tag and maintenance. Animal skin looking handbags add flair to your outfit. It kicks whatever you’re wearing up a notch because it adds texture and sheen. It works best if you’re not wearing something glittery, sequined, or shiny. You don’t want too many textures and shines competing with your arm candy. But it does work well with leather, so you don’t have to hang that back up. Olivia + Joy has a fabulous “Big Spender” handbag that is in the shape of a doctor’s bag that adds glamour. KDNY designed two great mock croc handbags in a crossbody and satchel to fit your style in two neutral colors. Nude and dark gray are wardrobe palette staples. Prefer a tote? STEVEN has you faux croc covered with the gray tote bag.

Just not feeling extra exotic? No problem. Pick a leather handbag in a nice bold color with eye-catching hardware.  Cynthia Rowley “Helena” clutch gives you a hot red leather clutch that’s also perfect for the nightlife, and is embellished with gold hardware to get the question, ‘where did you get that bag?’ Don’t tame the handbag beast, feed it a piece of exotic arm candy.
