Fringing For Fall
By: Jennifer Wilson
Lately I have been obsessing over all things fringe. It was quite obvious that fringe was one of the newest trends to hit the runway for Spring 2015, but I have been a fan of this look for a while. It actually started when I was a little girl and got my first pair of cowboy boots with fringe detailing. I will never forget the first time I laid eyes on them. They had a magical appeal to me and I would wear them to my horseback riding lessons and never wanted to take them off. Mix in a fringed jacket, and I could have been considered a fanatic of the style at the ripe age of 5.
Something about the extra trim also reminds me of one of my favorite books, “The Great Gatsby” where fringe is seen in most women’s attire. Obviously the type of fringe I am talking about has a refreshed look and a modern vibe to it (no flapper dresses or western outfits I promise, unless it’s for Halloween) and I love how it adds movement to a look. I have actually had the dress I’m wearing for a couple of years now and I literally wear it all of the time. The billowy sleeves make it perfect for breezy nights out and I love pairing it with over the knee boots for a great fall look. I also enjoy fringe when mixed in with suede or leather, like on a great pair of booties. The texture of fringe gives the extra fabric an added bonus and a richer look.
One of my favorite things about fall, other than pumpkin bread, hot chocolate, and holiday activities, is that it’s the season of layering, and I always like to let my shoes do the talking whenever possible. Fringe booties pair perfectly with a pair of skinny jeans and a simple chunky knit and I can already picture sashaying down the sidewalk in my frilly fringe shoes on a chilly night, pretending I’m on a runway, of course.
I’ve had my eye on several pairs of shoes, accessories, dresses, and handbags that all have a bit of a fringe detail and cannot get enough of the look. It’s a style that can be dressed up or down and worn during the day or out at night, and the best part is it adds a whimsical element to any ensemble. I’m a huge fan of having fun with my wardrobe and I love nothing more than choosing pieces that I can wear multiple times during a season. Anything with fringe on it has major wear appeal for both the fall and winter seasons, and can carry into the spring ever so easily (think sandals and sundresses), and I can’t wait to break out several of my items at home or on vacation this season.
