Mad for Plaid
By: Sarah Butler
In my last article I talked about how best to incorporate leopard print into your wardrobe. Having conquered leopard print, I thought now I would talk a little bit about another favorite of mine that I think you’ll love just as much, PLAID.
Like leopard, plaid is a very versatile print. Depending on how you style the trend, the print easily translates into preppy, traditional, and even street-chic focused wardrobes. What I’m saying is there is a plaid jacket, skirt, pant, etc. out there for everyone!
In general, I like to wear prints one of two ways: either as a statement or as an accessory. The same goes for wearing plaid. Today I’m going to share two plaid looks I recently styled on SarahStylesSeattle.com. Both looks are perfect for running errands around town or for grabbing a cup of coffee with friends.
The quickest way to start playing with plaid is to simply pick up a plaid blanket scarf in your color of choice. I’m currently red obsessed so when my eyes met this checkered scarf, it was love at first sight. Ever since I’ve been pairing my beloved scarf with coordinating sweaters and boots. In this look, I’ve opted to layer my plaid statement piece over a neutral cashmere sweater, leather pants, and ankle boot for a festively fall ensemble. The look screams put-together yet effortless because of the rumpled layers of the blanked scarf. You know, that “I woke up like this” feel.
Statement jackets are always a good idea. I say this because they have the amazing ability to instantly dress up any so-so outfit as you run out the door. That being said, a plaid jacket is obviously a must. I’ve again layered my statement plaid over a similar neutral cashmere sweater (beige instead of grey), black jeans, and ankle boot combo for plaid perfection. Try it out. You too will soon be thinking that just bopping around town never looked so good.
Of course, there are many more ways to wear plaid! Everyone has a flannel plaid shirt, right? Well tie it around your waist and you’ll look too cool for school. Or, mix up your office attire by pairing your go-to blazer with a plaid paint or pencil skirt for a fashion-forward ensemble! No matter how you rock it this season, I’m sure you’ll go mad for plaid.
