Style Runway - Accessories - Prints + Patterns

Prints and patterns established their own explosive moment when they arrived on the scene in a number of ways this season. Whether they're used to break up a solid ensemble or daringly clashed together for a whimsical look, prints provide an ultra-cool touch.

Building an au courant look this season is easy with signature dauntless prints from designers such as Versace and Missoni. Due to their riveting swirls of colors and shapes, these prints provide an effortless twist to a look through accessories such as scarves or even umbrellas.

Experimenting with prints this season will allow you to play with the mood of your look and shift the direction for either the office or after dark festivities. You can easily soften a look with a simple floral print or polka dots, add a touch of class with paisley, or turn up the heat by sneaking in an animal print such as a leopard clutch.

Now, If you're feeling daring, take this seasons "clashing" trend in your own hands. As seen on the runway in Dolce & Gabbana's Fall 2011 show, polka dots and animal print collided in an unpredictable yet effortlessly cool, downtown-chic look. Don't be afraid to play around with your own patterns and prints to create your own unique look this season.

So, from zebra print to magnified paisley, heavy printed accessories are a must have in your wardrobe this season. Use them to magically shift the mood of a look or work them on a different scale to create a playful and in-the-moment ensemble.

Style Runway - Accessories - Collar Necklaces
By Heather Epstein

Ladies it is time to button up your collar shirt all the way to the very last button and time to put on a collared necklace. I have fallen head over heels for this trend. It really adds a spice to button ups that I have been looking for. When going to work I dreaded wearing a button up since I always felt dull in them. If anything that is not the case anymore and I can’t get enough collared button ups and short chunky necklaces. The collar necklace trend has also ended the war on what necklace to wear with button ups. So ladies, take off those little pearls or single strand necklaces and get ready for chunky pieces.

What I really love about this trend is how playful and versatile it is; whether business casual or three-piece-suit, collar necklaces find a way to jazz up any look. Necklaces like the Punch’s Short Necklace with Stones or the Kenneth Jay Lane’s Bling Phoenix Necklace will add sparkle to a business outfit without over glittering the look and dressing it down; adding a bit of sophistication, collar necklaces are to women as boy ties are to men.

Pulling the very same two pieces from above you can spice up a weekend look as well. Take your chambray top button it all the way up and add the collared necklace, jeans, and boots and you’ve got yourself a weekend-ready look. Check out the latest necklace options from brands like Punch, Kenneth Jay Lane, and Stephan & Co.. Each of these pieces is unique and can be versatile with your looks.

Style Runway - Accessories - Warming up with Cognac Accessories
By The Fashionisette

When the colder season approaches it’s always nice to warm up your winter outfits.  What’s the perfect piece that goes with any shade? Cognac colored footwear and handbags add that spice you need without going overboard. With the color cognac, you get the pop of color and you get the neutral color that goes with anything. It’s the best of both worlds.

Going monochromatic? Break up the one color note with a cognac boot and/or handbag. A cognac boot goes smoothly over a pair of skinny jeans and sweater. Navy blue, or a darker wash jean is ideal with this lighter brown color. It’s great with an all red, all black, all cream (which is so pretty during the winter), or all brown outfits. If going with a nice cognac boot, you can choose a smaller handbag, like a crossbody style bag. Since the boot is the bigger element, your bag can be minimal in size to compliment your look. If you want to wear a nice pair of cognac colored wedges, then you can go for a bigger bag, such as a satchel or tote bag, since the shoes are smaller in size in proportion. This balances the amount of color and gives you just enough. But there is no hard fast rule, you don’t always have to have your handbag match your shoes. It’s just an option.

Since the cognac color is like the new nude color, you can always throw in a handbag or pair of shoes with prints or patterns when you don’t want to always go to black. Depending on your skin tone, this color can have the same effect a nude shoe has for some, it can elongate your legs and give you a taller appearance. So play around with the hues to match your skin tone to achieve that seamless effect. Not a fan of cognac colored footwear? Then opt for the handbag. It really is a basic color that should be added to any closet. It can quickly become your everyday bag since the color goes with anything. No matter what size bag you like to carry, a cognac colored one is a no-brainer piece that you don’t have to worry about it not matching what you’re wearing that day. It is the season for festive colored sweaters, such as reds, greens, creams, and greys, to be worn and a cognac colored handbag goes well with them all. It really gives you that rich, classic, effortless look.

Play it safe with cognac hued accessories during the season. It’s a responsible way to not look like you have a fashion hangover.
